CrossFit 515 Birthday - when did you start?
My first CrossFit workout was in early 2010. Justin and I were living in Denver, and Bobby came out there for Level 1 Cert. After years of long distance running and endless cardio, I was doing P90X at the time and thought I had unlocked the secret to fitness. We took dumbbells to City Park, and Bobby put us through some variation of Hotel WOD. Still one of the hardest workouts! I moved back to Des Moines in June 2010 and started doing CrossFit in my parents’ garage, where it all began. If you haven’t watched CrossFit515 “The Beginning” on YouTube, go brush up on your 515 history and check it out (if nothing else, for the early CrossFit high fashion).
What brought you to 515?
The family discount.
What are your favorite movements and least favorite movements?
Favorites - toes to bar, burpees, cleans, overhead squats.
Not favorites - deadlifts, bike, carrying a wooden worm for miles (it was probably miles).
How has CrossFit and/or CrossFit 515 impacted your life?
This is a big one. After 14 years, it’s impossible to envision my life without CrossFit515. Doing CrossFit changed my view of fitness. Constantly varied and high intensity was the opposite of what I had been doing for years. It works, which is addicting, but also shifted my focus/goals to what my body can do instead of what my body looks like. I did CrossFit through four pregnancies and postpartum, and I’m very thankful I found CrossFit before that phase of life. CrossFit has a big influence on our family, and I’m proud that my kids grow up seeing their parents prioritize their health and see it as normal to make working out a regular part of everyday. I could go on, but I thought it would be more interesting for my kids to share what they think about me doing CrossFit:

How to get started!
Attend our “Intro to CrossFit 515” class offered Tuesday evenings at 5:30pm. During this class we walk you through how our gym works and how we run things. We discuss the methodology and why what we do works! We’ll also put you through a warm up and workout to end the session.
Our free week trial starts with our Intro class and if the scheduled time does not work for you we can coordinate another time.
